"One of the standout aspects of the firm's culture is its focus on professional growth. The firm offers numerous opportunities for on-the-job development, tailored to different roles and career stages."

I joined Clifford Chance in 2024 after developing a passion for arbitration and civil proceedings during my time at Warsaw University. This passion led me to my current role as an associate in the Litigation and Dispute team in Warsaw.

What led you to specialise in your practice area and what keeps you passionate?

I have always been quite good at debating. I started debating during my time in high school. An extension of this passion was to participate in Moot Courts during my studies at Warsaw University. Moot's team coach was a professor whose passion for civil procedure and arbitration was so contagious that it passed on to me and has stayed with me to this day.

How did your initial assumptions about being a lawyer change as your career progressed?

Initially, I had an idealistic view of the profession. I imagined it as a field where justice always prevails and lawyers are the champions of truth, tirelessly advocating for their clients in dramatic courtroom battles. I assumed that being a lawyer was all about winning cases and making persuasive arguments.

However, as I progressed in my career, I realised that being a lawyer involves much more than just courtroom drama. It requires a deep understanding of the law, meticulous attention to detail, and a great deal of research and preparation. The role also demands strong interpersonal skills, as building relationships with clients and colleagues is crucial.

How would you describe the culture at the firm?

The culture at Clifford Chance is one that truly values diversity, collaboration, and professional growth. From my experience, the firm places a strong emphasis on creating an inclusive environment where everyone feels valued and respected.

One of the standout aspects of the firm's culture is its focus on professional growth. The firm offers numerous opportunities for on-the-job development, tailored to different roles and career stages. Moreover, my colleagues are unique individuals, keen on helping others develop through their journey at the Warsaw Office.

Case management skills have been crucial as they involved meticulous organisation, attention to detail, and the ability to prioritise tasks. It has enabled me to handle complex legal matters, meet deadlines and manage multiple cases in a fast-paced legal environment.

Teamwork has been an integral learning. Collaboration is highly valued at the firm, and I have learned the importance of effective communication and mutual support. Working closely with colleagues has provided me with diverse perspectives and insights, enriching my professional growth.

Finally, an innovative approach to client needs has been a key skill that I have developed. I have learned to think creatively and find novel solutions to complex legal issues. By staying ahead of industry trends and embracing new technologies, I have been able to offer innovative solutions that meet the evolving demands of our clients.

What aspect of the work brings you the greatest satisfaction?

It is the possibility of day-to-day work with people who I admire as professionals and now having the opportunity to learn directly from them.

What advice would you give to someone considering a career at Clifford Chance?

Go for it! For me, working at Clifford Chance is a dream come true, and I can only regret that I did not start earlier.

What has been your most exciting project so far?

My most impactful project is the Forensic Investigation I concluded with my colleagues, which included complex international, criminal and arbitration issues. I learned how to conduct investigations from scratch.

What is the best career advice you have received?

"Do what you love, and you can have fun with it." It changes your approach to work when you look at new tasks as an interesting puzzle rather than an unpleasant chore.

How do you maintain work-life balance?

Maintaining a healthy work-life balance is important to me, and I find it manageable due to the support of my fiancée, who helps me navigate the stresses of the day. My approach is simple — by listening to my loved ones and staying in tune with my own well-being, I am able to view my career with a clear perspective.
