We established our Newcastle office in early 2018, where our team of more than 80 legal apprentices, paralegals, supervisory and managing paralegals, process and tech specialists and management team bring decades of experience, expertise and specialist knowledge to areas such as legal tech and process-driven service delivery. 


The team in Newcastle works on matters for all the firm's practice areas providing support for a range of legal tasks while ensuring that knowledge, resources, processes and technology are deployed effectively. Our Newcastle office offers the close-knit and inclusive culture of a smaller firm with the resources and support of a global elite law firm.

This all comes together to allow us to provide a seamless service to clients and the lawyers that we work remotely with from our London office and other global offices.

Our work

A paralegal role at the Newcastle office offers you the opportunity to work with a responsive team within a fast-paced environment and collaborative culture. The teams are diverse and are made up of people from a variety of backgrounds. We welcome law and non-law graduates as well as experienced paralegals with different educational groundings to ensure that we have the right skills to meet the needs of our clients. We look for individuals who have a flexible approach, who are willing to change and adapt their way of working and their processes to best suit the needed of the project at hand. It is essential that our people approach their work creatively and innovatively, because the nature of the work means we're often doing things for the first time. 

You will be supported to work in a hybrid way with the expectation of working from the office for a minimum of 50% of your time if you are a paralegal or 80% if you are a paralegal apprentice. This allows you to get the most out of working with your colleagues, connecting and sharing ideas in the office, while also offering the benefits of working from home. 


Our award-winning team is recognised for developing new approaches and using the latest technology. With the support of our Legal Technology Advisors and Process Architects to help shape how projects are carried out efficiently.

How we work

The team in Newcastle works on a wide variety of matters and are specialists in a range of areas, working with all the firm’s practice areas on a various legal tasks. The team is fully integrated into the business and legal apprentices, paralegals, supervisory and managing paralegals and the management team are led by the Head of Operations and Head of the Newcastle office. 

Process improvement is a key focus throughout our work which means that we are constantly looking for new ways we enhance and refine our services on an ongoing basis. This requires people who are proactive in identifying, analysing and improving business processes and ways of working to meet excellent standards of service. 


As a team, we focus a great deal on new joiners, investing in the rapid development and onboarding of new talent. Everyone is involved in briefings and de-briefs and encouraged to take an active part in team discussions.

The team provides a wide variety of key training programmes as part of continuing professional development, to support you in delivering managed legal services to a range of clients. 

In addition to this, we've developed a range of training and development opportunities including a bespoke training programme covering a range of courses specific to the delivery of legal operations and people management. 

Since establishing the Newcastle office, employees have also been provided with a range of training to mobilise and integrate the team, and to ensure the team operates to Clifford Chance's professional standards which has included IT, legal tech and legal-specific training.

Apprentice Opportunities

Apprentice Opportunities 

In partnership with the University of Law join our annual September cohort and embark on a two-year paralegal apprenticeship. You'll be working in a team with paralegals at differing levels and senior stakeholders across the business. Your role will be to assist them with all aspects of delivery across a range of projects, practice areas and offices, whilst working towards attaining your paralegal apprenticeship qualification.

We are looking for people who are organised, enthusiastic and detail focused. The role requires you to be proactive and forward thinking, able to deal with and juggle competing demands for a variety of complex tasks.

You'll be paid the "Real Living Wage" and if successful at the end of the programme, you will have the opportunity to become a permanent Paralegal within the Newcastle Office.

Apprenticeship Key Dates

Application process: Online application, online assessment centre, pre-recorded Video interview, in person interview.


Online Assessments: The assessment centre will include two online tests: Following Instructions and Proofreading. A practice test will be available, and candidates will have one week to complete the assessments upon receiving the link.


Pre-recorded video interview: Essentially an interview with no interview panel, our video interview consists of two short, pre-recorded questions that you will be asked to record your answers to.


In person interview: Held in person at our Newcastle office, the final stage will consist of a 30-minute interview with the Apprentice Manager and an additional member of the management team.

  • Five GCSEs (or equivalent qualifications) grade A-C or 9-4
  • Currently hold, or are working towards, 3 A' Levels grade A-C or equivalent qualifications
  • Not working towards or already possess a Level 3 or higher legal qualification similar to the Level 3 paralegal apprenticeship
