London Summer Program

Our London program is designed to provide our summer law clerks with a realistic view of what it will be like to live and work in London. Although summer law clerks do not need to have background experience in capital markets or finance, due to the nature of our practice, our summer program is based exclusively on US securities work and is limited in size. We are dedicated to providing summer law clerks an in-depth and interactive view of our practice.

The London program runs parallel to our other US summer law clerk programs in New York, Houston, Washington, DC, Frankfurt and Hong Kong. We schedule a full calendar of organized trainings and networking events, and in addition to our own summer law clerks, we host the 2L summer law clerks from the New York, Houston and Washington, DC offices for the foreign office placement.

The experience

Summer law clerks will work closely with our team of partners and associates. The work is generally substantive and client-oriented, providing the opportunity to see what life as a leading international capital markets lawyer is like. Our varied social events hosted both in and outside the office provide a great opportunity to get to know the US team and the wider firm, as well as London itself.

The work

Our US practice in London advises a wide range of clients from global investment banks, top-tier private equity sponsors, major corporates, sovereigns, financial investors and others on a wide range of transactional work related to securities, including significant Leveraged Finance/High Yield work, and covers a wide geography from Western and Eastern Europe to the Middle East and Africa.

We frequently advise on a number of transaction types, provide general US law advice in an EMEA context and work with our other US-qualified colleagues in Paris, Frankfurt and Milan. Our broad market-leading practice is primarily focused on:

Fachliche Einführungs- und Vertiefungskurse

We advise across the DCM spectrum, including investment grade and sovereign issuances. We are top ranked (Tier 1) in DCM in Europe and globally.

The details

We typically seek two 2L summer law clerks each year for our London summer program. As noted above, our program runs parallel to the New York, Houston and DC summer programs, from mid-May to the end of July. Summer law clerk salaries are at the New York rate. We also provide housing assistance in London. Our London HR department will be able to assist summer law clerks in all aspects of coordinating their summer including arranging housing, obtaining visas, establishing bank accounts and more.

As the program is run by and for the US securities group in London, offers of permanent employment will be in the London office. For that reason, we encourage applicants to consider by the stage of their application whether they are willing to relocate to the United Kingdom permanently following graduation, and to be prepared to address this during the application process. We are not able to accommodate split-summers and require a 10-week commitment.

The requirements

Applicants must be enrolled full-time in an ABA-accredited law school, with an anticipated graduation in Spring 2027. Complete applications must include a resume and law school transcript (an unofficial copy is acceptable) and you are encouraged to include a short cover letter outlining why you are interested in starting your career with the US Securities team in our London office. Only complete applications will be considered. We encourage you to apply through your school's early resume collection. You may also apply via our online application portal.
