Our Culture

At Clifford Chance, we know that global reach is about so much more than where we are. It’s the way we work beyond borders. It’s our ability to collaborate, share ideas, knowledge, and expertise. It’s the opportunity to explore new ways of working. We each bring different perspectives and new capabilities, but we all share the same values and vision: to be the global law firm of choice for the world’s leading businesses of today and tomorrow.

We understand that diversity and inclusion is important to the success and wellbeing of our staff, their families, our firm and our clients, and society. Inclusion is an intrinsic value of our firm. It’s a matter of justice and a core part of our identity. We don’t just acknowledge our differences,we celebrate them – because the best asset we have as a firm is our people, and the many different perspectives and experiences they bring with them.

We know that being the global law firm of choice means we need to deliver equality of opportunity and equality of experience to all our colleagues, regardless of who they are or the journey they’ve taken to get here. That’s why we’re always looking for new ways to innovate how we work. To continue building a culture where everyone feels empowered to chase their goals and do work that aligns with their values. To ensure we stay curious, open minded, and respectful in everything we do.

As part of our commitment to inclusion in the workplace, we never stop looking for new opportunities to keep our workplace a safe and welcoming hub of ideas, thoughts, and ambitions. This comes to life in our collegiate and collaborative approach to work. We also have a variety of flourishing employee networks which help to engage our colleagues in diversity, inclusion, and wellbeing initiatives globally. These networks are a place for you to share your experiences and advocate for change wherever you see an opportunity for improvement.

Our employee networks

Accelerate>>>

In doing so, we aim to increase understanding of the value of our cultural differences and achieve equality of opportunity for all so that at all levels, the firm will reflect the cultural and ethnic diversity of its employees.

Arcus

Arcus is Clifford Chance's global LGBT network open to Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Trans+, Intersex, Queer and diverse people and their Allies. Arcus aims to encourage an inclusive and integrated culture within Clifford Chance that gives colleagues the choice to be open and out, with a strong belief that it is such a culture that allows everyone to develop to their maximum potential.

Enable

Supporting colleagues living with a disability or a neurodiverse condition. We raise awareness, provide guidance and highlight the support available within Clifford Chance, as well as provide a safe space to engage and network. Annual Pride Art Exhibition

Our annual Arcus Pride Art exhibition has become one of the largest corporate supported exhibitions of artworks by lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender (LGBTQ+) and supporter artists. The year 2022 marked the return to in-person celebrations under the theme of community, with events and exhibitions held in Amsterdam, Hong Kong, London, Madrid, Milan, Munich, Newcastle (UK), New York, Paris, Singapore, Sydney, Tokyo, Warsaw and Washington DC. It reminds us of how important community is both as a support for each other and as the foundation of change.

"Art and the law have always been central to LGBTQ+ advancement so for us at Clifford Chance, it is the perfect combination for an inclusion campaign. This year with our theme of community, our exhibitions reflect how artistic expression can create visibility, advocate for fairness, highlight injustice and foster understanding." (Tiernan Brady, Global Director of Inclusion)

Community Outreach: Australia

In recognition and celebration of the month of Ramadan, during which a special emphasis is placed on charitable giving and supporting the community, our teams in Australia worked with Brothers In Need and prepared 150 care packs for the homeless community in Sydney. The care packs provided various non-perishable and sanitary items. Brothers in Need give the care, sustenance and life changing hope to the elderly, homeless and other less privileged communities in Australia.

Community Outreach: Hong Kong

As part of our commitment to disability inclusion, we are proud to be supporting the International Paralympic Committee on #WeThe15. This is sports' largest human rights campaign, which aims to end discrimination and transform the lives of the world’s 1.2 billion persons with disabilities who represent 15% of the global population. To celebrate the launch of the campaign, in 2021 we supported the bake sale organised by The Nest Bakery in Hong Kong where our teams enjoyed their delicious cookies prepared by staff with learning disabilities. The Nest Bakery was founded by The Nesbitt Centre, one of our long-term non-profit partners in Hong Kong. They aim to empower adults with learning disabilities through vocational education and social enterprises.

Our colleagues on the ENABLE network also volunteered to lead a fitness class in collaboration with the Love 21 Foundation to support the International Day of Person's with Disabilities. The Love 21 Foundation is a Hong Kong-based charity empowering the Down syndrome and autistic community through sport, nutrition and holistic support programmes.

International Women's Day

On International Women's Day (IWD), our offices across the region came together for a month-long, global campaign of events and initiatives to champion equality and celebrate advocates for gender equality. The theme for 2022 is #BreakTheBias and we launched the 'Breaking New Ground' podcast series to highlight many of the ways we are working to break the bias as a firm and how we continue to drive forward these important themes and discussions as part of our permanent campaign for inclusion. A recent episode featured Clifford Chance's Global Director of Inclusion Tiernan Brady, Regional Managing Partner for Asia Pacific Connie Heng, and partner in our Hong Kong Capital Markets Group Angela Chan.
