Senior Associate

"Not only are the people very kind and talented, but we work as a team. That in itself may not sound ground-breaking, but if you put it into a global perspective it is."

After finishing my studies and further to being admitted to the Bucharest Bar, I re-joined the firm as a trainee lawyer in 2012. As a trainee lawyer I was involved in financing and capital market deals and also on advisory work (regulatory work). In 2016 I moved to London for a secondment with the asset management division of an international investment bank. It was a perfect opportunity to put to good use my knowledge from the regulatory work I have done in the past while at the same time using the negotiation and coordination skills I learned as a transactional lawyer.

As a trainee lawyer I originally worked mainly on transactional work (mainly capital markets and a few financing deals). The increasing changes in the banking and capital markets regulatory framework which brought with them new and more complex challenges soon revealed my particular aptitude for advisory work (financial regulations, licensing aspects, conduct of business for regulated entities, M&A when the target is a regulated entity, derivatives).

In early 2019 I moved to the Luxembourg office of Clifford Chance where I am currently part of the Banking, Finance and Capital Markets group, where I do mainly advisory work (financial regulations, licensing aspects, conduct of business for regulated entities, M&A when the target is a regulated entity, derivatives).

Why I joined

I knew from the start that in order to achieve my potential I would need to be exposed to more than one market, to more than one culture and to more than one type of work. I had no idea when I joined that it would be so much more than that.

What continues to engage me

The intellectual challenge of every day and a team of kind and very talented people.

My most rewarding experience so far...

I can't think of just one. Each successful transaction and each piece of advice delivered to our clients is in itself rewarding. Knowing you have not settled for less and delivered the best against all odds and deadlines is very satisfying. Knowing that your time and your team's time was put to good use to achieve something for your clients is very rewarding.

The best thing about my job

The intellectual challenge, the varied and complex nature of work, the challenge of staying ahead and the satisfaction of being a trend setter for the legal market.

The people

Not only are the people very kind and talented, but we work as a team. That in itself may not sound ground-breaking, but if you put it into a global perspective it is… you can have a Polish client, with assets in Romania and Italy, buying a French target under an English law agreement through a fund set up in Luxembourg, all while being financed by a German bank – and multiple lawyers from all across these jurisdictions will closely work together as a team to deliver one integrated solution for the Polish client.

The work

Recently I have been helping our clients prepare for Brexit. It is exciting to be able to help our clients and advise on such an important matter for them. I would describe the work as interesting and complex and constantly adapting. I get to work with very talented and skilled teams.

My motivation

My motivation comes from being able to adapt and take on any challenge that comes my way.

My journey to the firm

I studied at Bucharest University. I am a member of the Bucharest Bar and registered as a Foreign Lawyer with the Luxembourg Bar.

My advice

Never settle for less. There is a reward for kindness and hard work.
