How do I apply for a summer law clerk position?
Our New York, Washington, DC and Houston offices recruit from a wide range of law schools during the entry level recruitment season. We encourage you to apply through your school's early resume collect. If your school does not appear on our list, please send your application (resume and transcript) to americasentrylevelrecruiting@cliffordchance.com
Which practice areas do the NY, DC and Houston offices recruit for?
New York:
While the New York office does not recruit for specific practice areas, we take great care to understand our candidates’ primary interest be it for our Transactional Pool or L&DR practice.
The Transactional Pool encompasses our Corporate, Capital Markets, Banking & Finance and Real Estate departments. Full time associates join the pool for a period of 18 months, which provides enough time to get to know the various practices and for our associates to "find their fit" and at the end, they select their permanent “transactional home”.
While our Litigation & Dispute Resolution (L&DR) practice is fast-growing, there are limited spots for those interested in L&DR. L&DR clerks will work on securities litigation, regulatory and white-collar matters.
Washington, DC:
Our Washington, DC office recruits directly into the following practice areas: Project Finance, Litigation & Dispute Resolution, Antitrust and Tech Digital.
Houston:
Summer law clerks in our Houston office will have the opportunity to work closely with our global transactional teams, focusing on Energy Transition, Energy & Infrastructure, and Tech with exposure to Corporate M&A, Capital Markets, Project Development and Finance.
If I am invited for a callback interview, how long will my interview last?
Callback interviews are scheduled through Flo Recruit and last approximately two hours. During this second round you will meet with two partners and two associates for 30 minutes each. As part of your interview, you will meet with at least one member of the Firm's Hiring Committee.
What materials should I send in advance of my interview?
A copy of your resume and transcript will be circulated to your interviewers the day prior to your scheduled interview. If you have made any changes to your resume, please make sure that your most updated version is uploaded to Flo Recruit.
Is there an opportunity to request to meet with specific attorneys?
Yes! During the scheduling process on Flo Recruit, you will be able to request to meet with attorneys from a particular practice and we will make sure that these preferences are reflected in your final schedule.

When should I expect to hear about final offer decisions?
Our Hiring Committee meets twice a week during the recruitment season so that we are able to make decisions quickly. You should expect to hear from us within one week of your callback interview.
Will I have the opportunity to come back to the firm or ask additional questions before I make my decision?
We recognize how important this decision is and are here to help in any way we can! Our attorneys are eager to answer your questions, so be candid. The Legal Recruiting team is also more than happy to connect you with additional attorneys and former summer law clerks as additional resources.
