Job description
The Resource Manager (the Manager) will be expected to act as a trusted advisor to the One Europe L&DR Practice Area Management Team, comprising of the Regional Practice Director (RPD), Regional
Practice Associate Director (RPAD), Senior Resource Manager (SRM), Senior HR Manager (SHRM) and other Partners (as appropriate), providing advice and guidance to support effective resource management in Europe.
Key Responsibilities
Day to day responsibilities will focus on optimising the allocation of work and the deployment of lawyers to maximise profitability and support personal development.
With support from the SRM, the key responsibilities will include:
- To act as trusted advisor to the Partners in respect of manpower planning and resourcing
- To support the optimal allocation of work and the efficient deployment of staff to maximise profitability including the cross-sharing of resource across practice areas and jurisdictions.
- To identify appropriate workloads for varying levels of associates and paralegals/trainees incorporating the individuals’ preferences and development goals where possible.
- Provide support and advice to fee earners with regards to career development, experience and interest alignment and ensuring all of this data is captured centrally and maintained on a regular basis to support work allocation, involving the HRBP where appropriate.
- To identify and implement practical solutions to alleviate over / under capacity by promoting, encouraging and facilitating the cross sharing of resource both cross practice and cross jurisdictional giving access to a wider pool of resource.
- Providing forecast and actual utilisation and availability reports for the PAL and Partner group plus any other ad hoc reports that may be requested on a weekly basis.
- Ensuring that the overall resourcing view is accurate and up to date at all times, and that timely and targeted management Information is produced.
- Promoting lower cost resourcing options (Delivery Centres) across practice areas, highlight the relevant skills, experience and cost savings by utilising alternative resource models.
- You will liaise and collaborate closely with the various support functions for the practice area across the region: HR, Pricing, Legal Project Management, Innovation.
- Ensure any feedback obtained during the work allocation process on associates' performance is passed on to the Senior Resource Manager and the SHRM.
- Positively contributing to helping the firm achieve our diverse and inclusion objectives through sharing insights and information.
Skills & Experience
Ideally your experience will have been gained in a large commercial environment, ideally Professional Services.
You will have experience of professional career development or training or alternatively an in-depth understanding of the legal environment and the skills and personal attributes necessary to succeed in this profession.
You will be proactive and an effective problem solver.
You will be able to deliver challenging messages confidently and appropriately to both lawyers and senior management, drawing on guidance from the Senior RM where needed.You will have excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, with the ability to influence at all levels and explain technical issues in terms that are appropriate to the intended audience.
You will have a genuine care for people in their development and success in a high performing commercial context.
You will demonstrate a high level of accuracy, meticulous attention to detail and exceptional organisational skills.
You will have the ability to work under pressure and to deadlines.
You will have excellent IT skills including a thorough working knowledge of Word, PowerPoint, Excel and Outlook and a facility for on-line research.
You will need to develop a good understanding of the firm's culture I and how the practice area operate so you can determine the most suitable solution in each situation.
It is desirable that you will be educated to degree level or equivalent.
The ideal candidate will demonstrate the following:
- Fluency in English & French
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Ability to influence and negotiate and remain tenacious
- Commercially minded with good operational business acumen
- Ability to take effective decisions using sound judgement
- Strong problem solving and conflict resolution experience
- Proven ability to build and maintain strong internal and external working relationships
- A strong team player
