The role

Clifford Chance has an ambitious global strategy which puts clients at the very heart of everything the Firm does. The Business Development ("BD") function is pivotal in making the Firm strategy a reality. BD teams collaborate strategically with partners, lawyers and other business professional functions to drive sustainable growth. The BD function supports conversion of key client and market opportunities through the development and delivery of targeted business development and marketing plans.
 

Job purpose

To work with and support colleagues in the global Business Development team across a range of tactical and operational tasks relating to client relationship management; business development; marketing campaigns and initiatives; as well as specific activities related to wider Business Development function projects.
 

Key responsibilities

Business Development Activities

  • Client information and research – collating and maintaining information for clients; including descriptions of new matters, organisation charts, business structures and client strategies. This will involve liaising with other teams (e.g. Commercial Analysis), leveraging internal reports, and liaising with key client team members throughout the firm to gather information.
  • Supporting the Business Development team in responding to client RFPs, including researching relevant information and coordinating document production.
  • Maintaining the firm's library of capability statements, ensuring the regular updating of information as it becomes available.
  • Assisting with the legal directory process inclusive of drafting the relevant legal directory submissions.
  • Client Events: Supporting on the development and implementation of client events, in particular developing and maintaining targeted invitation lists and following up with participants.
  • Client planning – supporting the global Business Development teams in the implementation of the client plan, including tracking actions.
  • Assist with the production and delivery of internal marketing communications e.g., newsletters, intranet updates, etc.
  • Support the Business Development team in developing external BD and marketing materials such as brochures and client briefings.
  • Client listening – supporting the process associated with taking client feedback and using the intelligence to support the growth of the client.
  • Relationship meetings – assisting with the production of relationship documents and materials ahead of meetings.
  • Internal relationship communications – assisting with the creation and internal dissemination of client information.
  • Internal team meetings – arranging and preparing for internal client team meetings, taking notes and following up on actions.
  • Client financials – working with the Commercial Analysis Team to respond to financial information-related reporting requests.
  • Client fee arrangements – maintaining fee agreements on the central database and responding to requests for fee information.
  • Client reporting – collating information for and assisting with the creation of client Value Added Reports (VAR) and other relationship reports specified by the client.
  • Secondments – maintaining secondment information, liaising with client secondees, arranging and assisting with briefing sessions.
  • Work with PAs to create bespoke client mailing lists, providing training to PAs and fee earners on our CRM system as required.

Data Management Activities

  • Support the GBU/product teams in setting up and maintaining matter capture as it is incorporated into global processes.
  • Leverage reporting from Foundation to assist with managing matter capture, trend spotting, client development.
  • Support the process of transferring historical matter information (leveraging directory submissions) into matter capture format.
  • Work with fee earners to ensure matter capture forms are properly populated for all new matters.
  • Supporting the global Business Development team in the regular audit of capability statements to ensure all materials are kept current.
  • Ensuring fee earner CVs and website profiles are maintained and updated on a regular basis.
     

Qualifications

Your experience

  • You will have experience of working in an administrative role, ideally within the professional services or equivalent experience in a client development/account management administrative role.
  • You will be highly motivated, a self-starter, committed to high performance.
  • You will be pragmatic and have strong project management and analytical capabilities.
  • You will need to be a strong team player.
  • You will need to manage and prioritise multiple projects and respond quickly to requests which have a short turnaround time.
  • You will need to be positive and flexible to ensure that the areas within your responsibility are well managed.
  • You will have strong interpersonal and communication skills, both verbal and written (including strong editing and proofing ability and attention to detail).
  • You will be confident, resilient and focused.
  • You will be able to demonstrate a track record of being pro-active and delivering high quality work.
  • You will have strong general software skills (Excel, Word, Outlook and PowerPoint).
  • Preferable computer skills include InterAction.
