Job Description

The role 

The key focus of this role will be to act as an assistant within the tax team, providing support predominantly on Indirect Tax and Withholding Tax, with opportunities to gain exposure to other areas of tax.

What you will do

  • Assist in providing day-to-day support to the tax team, primarily on indirect tax (VAT) and withholding tax (WHT) queries, with additional exposure to other tax matters as required.
  • Build effective working relationships with finance and billing teams globally and act as a reliable first point of contact for routine tax and billing queries, escalating complex issues to senior members of the team, as appropriate.
  • Assist in documenting, maintaining and improving VAT/GST reporting processes and controls across the firm’s global offices.
  • Assist with internal VAT office reviews, including reviewing local VAT returns, processes and controls, and helping to ensure alignment with local laws and firm policies.
  • Support the tax team with a range of other tax-related activities, which may include elements of corporate tax or employment taxes, depending on business needs.
  • Support the review and update of global tax policies, including assisting with communication of changes to key stakeholders.
  • Assist in providing tax support for wider business projects and initiatives, including finance systems implementations and e-invoicing.
  • Support the business to ensure matters are correctly set up at inception, taking account of relevant indirect tax considerations, including identifying the correct client and billing office in global systems.
  • Assist with responding to tax authority queries, audits and information requests.
  • Take responsibility for assigned tasks and follow issues through to completion, keeping the Head of Indirect Tax informed of progress and issues.
  • Apply judgement to identify when issues should be escalated and when they can be progressed independently with guidance

Qualifications

Your experience

Skills and experience:

  • Some experience or academic background in tax, accounting or finance, ideally with exposure to indirect taxes such as VAT or GST.
  • Currently studying or intending to study towards the ATT qualification, with the opportunity to progress to ACA or CTA qualifications over time.
  • Strong work ethic with a proactive, can-do approach and a genuine willingness to learn.
  • Comfortable taking ownership of tasks and seeing them through, with appropriate support and guidance.
  • Comfortable handling both technical and routine operational tasks, with a consistent and accurate approach.
  • Good written and verbal communication skills.
  • Able to work collaboratively and use initiative when dealing with day-to-day issues.
  • Strong attention to detail and an organised approach to work.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office applications.
