Job description
The Role
We are seeking a Business Development Manager – Global Financial Markets and Real Estate ("BD Manager"). This position will support and oversee client and market development in the Americas region for the Global Financial Markets (GFM) team
focusing on Leveraged Finance, Asset Finance, Bankruptcy and Restructuring, and Real Estate. This role will also work with other BD colleagues within the network. The BD Manager will take a lead role on cross-subgroup initiatives within GFM and the Real Estate sector.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Work closely with the GFM and Real Estate Leadership and individual partners and lawyers, to become familiar with their offerings, clients, and markets to advise on the most effective marketing approaches.
- Support lawyers in identifying and pursuing new business opportunities, including market analysis, business planning and the production of bid documents (including pitches, responses to RFPs and capability statements), sometimes in collaboration with the graphics team and the global proposals team.
- Support Practice Area Leaders and group members in developing business plans in line with the wider GFM strategy, including financial analysis, individual partner goal-setting and corresponding marketing plans.
- Supporting specific client relationship partners in developing and implementing strategic client plans, conducting relationship and matter reviews, and arranging for value-added services, such as CLE seminars.
- Support the Firm's sector focus initiatives, including providing hands-on support for regional sector focus groups, keeping abreast of market trends, completing client research, developing integrated marketing campaigns, focus on sector-specific clients and providing client management support.
- Collaborate with the global BD support team to ensure transaction/deal information is captured in transaction databases for league table submissions, directory listings, pitches, partner biographies, awards, and other external and internal communication activities, and manage relevant mailing lists within our CRM database.
- Collaborate with our Communications & PR colleagues to identify opportunities to support individual lawyers and public matters that bolster the GFM and Real Estate practice's visibility and reputation via media relations, seminar sponsorship/participation, internal communications and website and intranet content
- Collaborate with the Events team to plan and execute conferences, client events, and other strategic engagements that enhance client relationships and promote the practice.
- Support cross-practice business development initiatives as necessary; manage and contribute to wider BD projects, as required, including playing a key role in the development and roll-out of the Americas growth strategy.
Clifford Chance US LLP offers a comprehensive benefits and compensation package. The salary range for this role is $180,000 to $225,000. The actual salary will be commensurate with the candidate's qualifications and relevant experience.
Your experience
- 5-7 years of business development/marketing experience in a law firm or professional services firm.
- Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Marketing/Communications preferred, MBA a plus.
- A global mindset and perspective; prior experience on global strategic initiatives a plus.
- Ability to develop advisory relationships with partners by demonstrating:
- Strong communication and analytical skills;
- proactive, can-do manner;
- ability to work on own initiative;
- a consultative, collaborative approach;
- ability to work under pressure and prioritize competing needs;
- an understanding of our clients' commercial objectives and marketplace;

- Ability to contribute to the growth and development of our BD team by:
- collaborating with colleagues at all levels and across global offices.
- demonstrating teamwork; and
- identifying opportunities to develop new processes/improve infrastructure.
- Must possess strong technical proficiency in various software including Microsoft Office, InterAction, and Foundation.
- Must be able to adhere and comply with the Firm's Agile Working Policy which requires employees to work from the office at least three days each calendar week.
- Must be independently and legally authorized to work in the United States.
