Job Description

The Data Privacy Team at Clifford Chance is part of the Risk and Compliance Department with dedicated professionals based in London, Newcastle and Delhi.  This close-knit team of data privacy specialists is charged with the stewardship of the firm's global data privacy framework and maintains a collaborative relationship with a network of data privacy contacts across the firm's international offices.

The data privacy team provides strategic operational advice and robust support to the firm's business functions and practice areas.  Their remit encompasses a wide array of operational issues, including but not limited to, conducting thorough data privacy impact assessments, efficiently handling data subject rights requests, navigating the complexities of international data transfers, and meticulously meeting client-specific data privacy requirements.

Reporting directly to the Head of Data Privacy, your primary responsibility will be to facilitate the implementation of the firm's data privacy framework throughout Continental Europe, coordinating data privacy compliance initiatives and aiding in the execution of the firm's data privacy strategy.  Additionally, you will collaborate closely with the Continental Europe Compliance Manager and the regional privacy contacts to ensure a cohesive approach to data privacy compliance across the various offices. Your role will be pivotal in maintaining the highest standards of data privacy and ensuring that the firm's practices align with both local and international regulations.

As the Data Privacy Manager for Continental Europe be responsible for:

  • Serving as the primary liaison between the Data Privacy Team and the regional data privacy contacts, offering guidance and support to ensure the effective implementation of the firm's Data Privacy Framework across Continental Europe.
  • Gathering and providing feedback on policies, data privacy impact assessments, and other global initiatives, ensuring that Continental Europe requirements are reflected
  • Providing essential support to the Continental Europe offices in key data privacy compliance activities, including the coordination of data subject requests and the delivery of targeted training programmes.
  • Coordinating regular audits of the Record of Processing Activities, collaborating with data privacy contacts to maintain accuracy and relevance.
  • Facilitating the data privacy risk management process, supporting risk mitigation activities in the region
  • Oversee the data privacy aspects of third-party vendor management for Continental Europe
  • Assist the Head of Data Privacy in maintaining the Intra-Group Data Transfer and Security Agreement and related documentation.
  • Contribute to strategic projects as directed by the Head of Data Privacy, along with any other duties that may arise in the pursuit of maintaining the firm's data privacy standards.

Qualifications

You will have a background in data privacy with 3+ years experience gained at a commercial organization.  Expert knowledge and application of compliance with UK, EU and international privacy laws is essential. Legal qualification (law degree, LPC) and privacy certifications (CIPP/E, CIPM) are desirable. 

You will have proven data privacy skills and a strong ability to provide pragmatic solutions.  You will need to demonstrate that you can thrive in a team with high professional standards and a flexible client-friendly commercial approach.
