The role

Our Client & Market Development function ("C&MD") is pivotal in making the Firm strategy a reality. C&MD teams work strategically with our Global Business Units – all with the same vision "to be the global law firm of choice for the world’s leading businesses of today and tomorrow".

In this role, you will be part of the C&MD team supporting the development of Clifford Chance's Litigation & Dispute Resolution practice across London and Continental Europe. This is a hands-on and proactive role where you will work directly with the Regional Practice Area Leads for London and Continental Europe, based in London and Warsaw respectively.

Our market-leading practice across both London and Continental Europe has significant expertise across all areas and sectors of dispute resolution, and individuals from across the group are also becoming increasingly engaged in emerging areas. Clifford Chance is recognised as a long-standing partner for key players in the market, including the largest banks, financial investors, and corporate clients. As such, the team is regularly involved in major high-profile cases, many of which have received significant media attention.

This role is business critical in its support to the regional practice across both London and Continental Europe and is an opportunity for you to have a huge impact.

 

Who you will work with

You will work closely with the Regional Practice Area Leads for London and Continental Europe, the practice's Regional Business Managers for London and Continental Europe, and the Director of Client & Market Development for Global Litigation & Dispute Resolution.

As part of the Litigation & Dispute Resolution C&MD team, you will also work closely with your regional Litigation & Dispute Resolution C&MD counterparts as well as other members of the Litigation & Dispute Resolution team located across the globe.

Beyond your immediate C&MD team, you will also interact with members of the wider London and Global C&MD team; the Brand, Communications and Marketing ("BC&M") team; the Knowledge & Thought Leadership ("KETL") team; and the Best Delivery team.

You will report directly into the Client & Market Development Director, Global Litigation & Dispute Resolution.

 

What you will be responsible for

Revenue generation

  • Support the London and Continental Europe Litigation & Dispute Resolution practice in defining and implementing client and market development strategy
  • Shape, promote and lead London- and Continental Europe-led Litigation & Dispute Resolution initiatives and campaigns
  • Proactively spot market trends and opportunities across all Litigation & Dispute Resolution product areas in the London and Continental European market
  • Bring London and Continental Europe together (One Europe) to pursue opportunities
  • Oversee pitching for significant Litigation & Dispute Resolution -led opportunities in London and Continental Europe
  • Oversee the effective pursuit of opportunities, including everything from coaching lawyers to capturing practice credentials
  • Collaborate with Litigation & Dispute Resolution C&MD regional counterparts and peers from the wider C&MD team on cross-selling opportunities across the network

 

Reputation management and marketing communications (working with BC&M)

  • Support in building profile and pipeline opportunities for practice and wider firm
  • Evaluate, project manage and implement best practice to business development campaigns, client events, conferences, sponsorships, PR, etc.
  • Oversee multiple marcomms projects, including the delivery of directory/awards submission

 

Client focus

  • Embed the practice in client relationships across London and Continental Europe, working together with client teams and practice specialists to identify and pursue opportunities
  • Work with Client Development Managers, across priority clients, on Litigation & Dispute Resolution -related strategic client activity
  • Support the client listening programme by conducting client feedback interviews for significant Litigation & Dispute Resolution matters led out of London and Continental Europe

 

Line management

  • Responsible for direct line management of three individuals within the Global L&DR C&MD team - based in London, Continental Europe, and Delhi
  • Provide day-to-day support and oversight of the wider Global L&DR CMD team members on the ground in London

 

C&MD function projects

  • Working closely with the Global Head of L&DR C&MD to execute on strategically important C&MD function projects

 

What you will do

This is a strategic role requiring a high-energy leader who will be able to adopt a problem-solving approach to day-to-day support; guide others in resolving complex issues; play a key role in setting best practice and take the lead on the successful delivery of longer-term C&MD initiatives.


Qualifications

Your experience

In order to perform this role successfully, the candidate will require:

  • Significant previous experience in professional services business development (preferably in a law firm)
  • A strong interest in and understanding of Litigation & Dispute Resolution
  • Good commercial awareness of legal market developments, particularly across London and Continental Europe
  • Ability to develop advisory relationships with partners
  • Previous leadership responsibility
  • Experience in dealing with senior management and key stakeholders
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Coaching, influencing and presentation skills
  • Experience working as part of a team and with lawyers of all seniority levels

Hybrid Working

This role follows our 'balanced' hybrid working approach and as long as business needs allow, you will be supported to work in a hybrid way with the expectation of working from the office for a minimum of 50% of your time.
