The Role

Our Client & Market Development function ("C&MD") is pivotal in making the Firm strategy a reality. C&MD teams work with our Global Business Units – all with the same vision "to be the global law firm of choice for the world’s leading businesses of today and tomorrow".
In this role, you will be part of the C&MD team supporting Clifford Chance's Global Tax, Pensions, Employment, and Incentives (TPE&I) group. This is a hands-on and proactive role where you will work directly with the Global Practice Area Lead, based in Madrid.
Clifford Chance has a truly global TPE&I practice with first-class capability and market leaders in their respective disciplines. Our Global tax practice delivers commercial advice across the full spectrum of international and domestic tax issues, while our experienced employment, incentives and pensions specialists work with clients across a range of sectors to address local and cross-border issues.
This role is business critical in its support to the global practice area and is an opportunity for you to have a huge impact. As a Senior Manager, you will also be part of the firmwide C&MD Leadership team and play an active role in contributing to wider firm C&MD strategy.
Who you will work with
You will work directly with our Global TPE&I team of approximately 47 Partners and 180 Lawyers on their client and market development initiatives.
You will report into the Global Head of C&MD for L&DR & TPE and directly manage the C&MD Associate Manager for the London TPE practice.
You will also work closely with various members of the C&MD team across the globe with different degrees of responsibility for the practice; and interact with members of the wider Global C&MD team; the Brand, Communications and Marketing ("BC&M") team; the Knowledge & Thought Leadership ("KETL") team; and the Innovation & Best Delivery ("I&BD") team.
What you will be responsible for
Revenue generation
- Support the Global TP&I practice in defining and implementing its C&MD plan and strategy
- Work with the Global TPE&I practice and its individual partners to develop products
- Shape, promote and lead TPE&I initiatives and campaigns
- Oversee the effective pursuit of opportunities, including coaching lawyers
- Proactively spot market trends and opportunities for TPE&I across the globe
- Cross-sell TPE&I products and initiatives across the firm globally
- Provide tailored input into significant Global TPE&I-related pitches and capability statements
Reputation management and marketing communications (working with BC&M)
- Identify opportunities to position and raise the profile of the TPE&I practice and its individual lawyers
- Lead in the organisation of Global TPE&I-related client events, seminars and conferences, sponsorships, PR, etc.
- Oversee multiple marketing communications projects, including the delivery of global directory/awards submissions
- Lead the relationship with account managers of the most significant external publications
- Support in the creation and distribution of thought leadership material
Client focus
- Apply depth of TPE&I product knowledge to support client and segment (Banks, Financial Investors, Corporates) programmes that run across the firm
- Conduct competitor, client and marketplace analysis to identify new and emerging opportunities
- Support the client listening programme by conducting client feedback interviews for significant TPE&I opportunities globally
Line management
- Responsible for the line management of one individual within the Global TPE&I team
C&MD function projects
Execute on strategically important C&MD function projects.
What you will do
This is a strategic role requiring a high-energy individual to lead on the development of TPE&I products and successful delivery of TPE&I initiatives.
You will be responsible for the execution of targeted client development activity, across the Global TPE&I practice.
Your experience
In order to perform this role successfully, the candidate will require:
- Significant experience as a manager in professional services business development (preferably in a law firm or Big Four)
- A strong interest in and understanding of the work types covered by the TPE&I practice in the various offices (desirable)
- Sound commercial awareness of legal market development
- The ability to develop advisory relationships with partners
- Previous leadership responsibility
- Strong project management and organisational skills
- Excellent oral and written communications skills
- Ability to work as part of a team and with lawyers of all seniority levels
- Coaching, influencing and presentation skills
- Commitment to quality and attention to detail
- A degree (or equivalent) in a relevant discipline
