Clifford Chance is seeking a full-time Business Development [Junior] Manager to proactively lead development and implementation of business strategy for Clifford Chance's Tech Group across the Asia Pacific region.
The ideal candidate will be experienced and passionate in key areas of Tech law, including technology transactions, digital transformation, fintech, data privacy, cybersecurity and emerging technologies, such as AI.
The purpose of this role is to:
- Develop and implement the Firm's Tech strategy in APAC, working with the Global Tech leadership team to ensure consistency with the global Tech strategy. You will be an important voice in determining the regional strategy and working in close collaboration with partners, associates and C&MD colleagues to put this into action.
- Drive APAC revenue growth from tech work and the tech client base, driving key initiatives, client relationships, and working hand-in-hand with a dynamic and growing team of lawyers and business professionals.
- Work with the Global Tech leadership team to realise synergies from our global client base and global strategy that we can target across APAC.
Key Responsibilities
Strategy and Implementation
- Develop a regional Tech strategy for the APAC Tech Group aligned with the Global Tech strategy, including priority client targeting and initiatives and campaigns to support high-growth products and clients.
- Work closely with the Head of APAC Tech Group, relevant partners, associates and CMD/BCM professionals across all practice areas to implement the APAC Tech Group's business development plan.
- Report regularly on progress against the plan and refine approach accordingly.
Business and Client Development
- Deliver and support on high impact business development campaigns and sector-focused Tech initiatives in the market. Provide wider support to global initiatives and look to implement synergies from global initiatives into the region.
- Develop and maintain key messages and client-facing collateral, including capability statements and pitches.
- Initiate and support client engagement through key account management, client outreach and engagement, and events.
- Work collaboratively with regional and global CMD, BCM, PSL and KETL teams to ensure priority product areas are the primary focus of our marketing, PR and thought leadership campaigns.
- Lead and produce APAC Tech Group client events. Develop internal and external event ideas (including sponsorships) that will drive growth areas and align with the strategic priorities of the APAC Tech Group and the Global Tech Group.
- Maintain relationships and lead collaborations and activities with key industry associations that are relevant to driving the key growth areas and strategic priorities for Tech in APAC and Global.
- Draft submissions to relevant awards and legal directories (such as Chambers, Legal 500 and FT Innovative Lawyers) in alignment with the APAC Tech Group strategy.
Marcomms / Internal Comms
- Support the internal profile raising of the APAC Tech Group through building and maintaining excellent relationships with the global network. Share best practice and wins with this group, and across the global network.
- Coordinate with the wider APAC BD function and external PR agency to maximise media opportunities and publicity for the APAC Tech Group.
- Leverage thought leadership and marketing campaign activity to inform client outreach. Measure success and feedback to BCM team.
Experience:
An ideal candidate will have:
- Experience working in similar roles within the legal and professional services environment
- Experience delivering initiatives to support growth within a targeted market or region
- Client relationship management skills
- Experience managing and leading complex pitches and panel RFPs
- A strong track record of being pro-active and delivering high quality work both personally and through a team
Skills:
- Strong interpersonal and influencing skills, with the ability to work both independently and collaboratively as part of a global team
- A good knowledge and genuine passion for technology law and industry, and developments
- Excellent organisational capabilities, ability to work under pressure, multitask and prioritise competing demands
- Clear and effective writing, presentational and verbal communications skills
- Practical, commercially-minded and energetic, with a "can do" attitude and hands on approach
- A global mindset and perspective, combined with an in-depth knowledge of the APAC market
- Proven project management skills
- Excellent judgement
Who will you work with
The role holder will work across the global practice and the region with lawyers and Business Professional colleagues and external third parties (as needed). This will include:
- Head of APAC Tech Group and the APAC Tech Group (comprising 15 partners and 50 lawyers)
- BD and Marketing leads for Global Tech Group and Global BD and Marketing contacts within the Global Tech Group
- APAC Client & Market Development Team
- APAC Brand, Communication and Marketing Team
Cross-practice, cross-offices and cross-sector partners and lawyers who are relevant in driving the growth areas and key strategic priorities of APAC Tech Group
- Educated to degree level or equivalent
