Job Description

Group Overview

Our global network of over 200 antitrust lawyers covers all the key hubs of Europe, Asia-Pacific and the US, enabling us to support our clients on their most complex and important antitrust matters across the world.  Our antitrust teams work together to solve multinational antitrust issues, considering the interplay between different practices and rules, and always mindful of the practical implications antitrust issues may have on our clients' business.

Who you will work with

The work covered by our Antitrust Group includes advice on a broad range of antitrust and sector specific regulatory matters, often with a cross-border dimension. Our Antitrust and Regulatory lawyers work on behalf of our clients on market/sector investigations, enforcement matters and mergers requiring clearance from competition and other regulatory authorities.

We advise on market leading mandates across the full range of contentious and non-contentious domestic and cross border antitrust matters. Our global team obtains clearances for our clients in the world's most challenging merger control proceedings, acts on the most significant dominance cases, and represents clients on complex multi-jurisdictional cartels. We also help our clients to avoid antitrust issues by developing and implementing sophisticated compliance programs, and we are at the forefront of state aid cases in Europe as well as the control of subsidies in the UK.

We continue to be recognised by leading industry bodies for our market leading work. We are ranked as a band one practice in both Chambers and Legal 500. Recent Awards include:

Band 1 for Chambers UK 2024: Competition Law

Band 1 for Legal 500 UK 2024: EU and Competition

Matter of the Year - Global Competition Review Awards 2023

Behavioural Matter of the Year (Europe) - Global Competition Review Awards 2023

Merger Control Matter of the Year (Americas) - Global Competition Review Awards 2023

Matter of the Year: Global Competition Review Awards 2023

Behavioural Matter of the Year: Europe: Global Competition Review Awards 2023

What you will be responsible for

As an Antitrust Lawyer, you will be working across a wide range of sectors including technology, consumer goods and retail, financial services, energy and infrastructure, transport, telecommunications and media.

You will advise on a range of matters, including:

  • Merger control: carrying out multi-jurisdictional merger control analysis and preparing merger filings to the relevant authorities, including at the UK and European level.
  • Foreign investment control: carrying out multi-jurisdictional FDI analyses, preparing filings and advising on undertakings
  • Market investigations / sector enquiries.
  • Cartel and abuse of dominance investigations.
  • Cooperation, distribution and licensing arrangements.
  • Antitrust litigation: appeals from decisions by competition authorities and significant follow on and stand-alone damages actions.
  • State Aid and the control of subsidies (including FSR filings).
  • Public procurement.
  • Developing relationships with clients and actively engaging in business development and thought leadership initiatives and seeking out opportunities for new work.
  • Drafting legal documents clearly and concisely, creating solutions using legal knowledge and commercial judgement to advise and support leading multi-national corporates.

Your career experience so far

You will have strong proven working knowledge across all areas of competition law, sector specific regulation and public policy as a mid-level lawyer, probably gained at a city firm, or at an overseas common law practice with a highly regarded profile.

In all cases you will have an outstanding academic history and proven first rate legal skills, combined with a strong reputation amongst existing clients for providing commercial solutions, excellent transactional and managements skills, and be recognised as a lawyer that is sought out by existing clients.

You will naturally be able to demonstrate excellent document drafting skills. You should demonstrate strong communication and analytical skills along with a high level of commercial awareness.

You will need to demonstrate that you can thrive in a team with high professional standards and a flexible client-friendly commercial approach. You will have had strong exposure of collaborating with multi-jurisdictional and multi-disciplinary teams.

It is crucial that you can demonstrate an appetite for business development, client relationship management and thought leadership.

How we will support you

From your first day with us, you will have varied opportunities to continuously grow and development your skills and knowledge. From formal training, informal coaching and mentoring through to skills-based and technical training and on the job learning.

  • You will be working with a broad range clients and the Firm's other teams and practice areas, not only in London, but across the globe.
  • You will have extensive client contact both as part of your daily working routine but will also have the opportunity to develop client contacts.
  • You will develop an unbeatable multi-disciplinary skill set as well as client facing skills whilst working with some of the best-known market leaders in their respective practice areas.
  • We will provide the opportunity for you to develop as a recognised practitioner in the field.
