The role

Job overview: 

Clifford Chance US LLP is seeking a full time Managing Clerk to join the Litigation & Dispute Resolution practice group. This role will provide guidance to multiple practice groups and attorneys on local, state and federal court rules, procedural issues and strategies. Additionally, this role will be responsible for relevant electronic filing, serving, processing, and retrieving of court document. This role will be based in the New York office and report to the Practice Area Leader – Litigation.


Key responsibilities:

  • Advise attorneys on state and federal court rules and procedures including court practices;
  • Maintain the firm's case management docketing system for all practice groups;
  • Ensure that attorneys are kept abreast of filing deadlines and court appearances;
  • Monitor cases in state and federal courts, government and administrative agencies on all active matters;
  • Provide assistance and advice to the firm's global offices worldwide regarding notarization and legalization of documents;
  • Manage and coordinate legal services required outside the firm such as service of process, retrieval of documents, etc.;
  • Assist with drafting and revising court submissions such as stipulations, notices of appearance, court required forms, applications for pro hac vice admission, etc.;
  • Perform filing of court documents utilizing electronic and other means as required by the court;
  • Interact and develop working relationship with court and judicial employees to discuss court procedures;
  • Review incoming court documents and correspondence and ensure docketing and case information is updated;
  • Coordinate with paralegals on managing clerk's functions;
  • Engage in collaborative efforts within the firm to advance and improve internal procedures.



Your experience

  • Minimum 5 years of relevant experience in a Managing Attorney/Clerk's office at a law firm.
  • Notary Public license preferred.
  • Must have familiarity with federal, state and local court systems (including e-filing) and procedural rules.
  • Proficiency in searching and retrieving information from court-related databases (e.g., PACER, Courtlink, NYS Unified Court Systems).
  • Ability to work under pressure and prioritize competing demands to meet deadlines.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to collaborate with other colleagues within a matrix organization.
  • Must have strong technical proficiency in various software programs, including Microsoft Office.
  • Must be independently and legally authorized to work in the United States.


Clifford Chance US LLP offers a comprehensive benefits and compensation package. The salary range for this role is $100,000 to $150,000 with eligibility for a discretionary bonus based on performance. Actual salary will be commensurate with the candidate's qualifications and relevant experience.
