Job Description

Clifford Chance seeks an Events and Digital Specialist to help support and execute the business development and marketing strategy for our Sydney and Perth offices. This role will be focused on delivering high quality events and digital marketing initiatives.

The Australia Business Development and Marketing team is responsible for helping partners and lawyers to develop the firm’s business, build its relationships with existing and potential clients and also manage the firm’s market profile.

You will be a critical member of the Australia team that works across the country. You will liaise directly with partners, lawyers and other business professionals. You will work very closely with the Asia Pacific and wider global Brand, Communications and Marketing (BCM) and Client & Market Development (CMD) teams.

This is a hands-on role that requires quick and accurate work. Key attributes are a genuine enthusiasm to be a part of a busy team, an ability to prioritise, willingness and ability to take ownership of tasks with strong attention to detail and a proactive and positive mindset.

You will be enthusiastic, engaging and considered, with the ability to build relationships across many levels of business. You must be a proven collaborator, a strong team player and be comfortable taking ownership of the tasks at hand.

The Australia Business Development team is seeking a true events partner to collaborate with to deliver the business development and marketing strategy for the Australia practice. Key elements of the role are:

Relationship building

  • Develop strong relationships with the business and legal professionals across multiple disciplines and practice areas.
  • Develop strong relationships across the APAC and Global CMD, BCM, IT, teams so that you can effectively connect with the wider network and to ensure brand consistency and effectiveness in local marketing activities.

Event Management

  • End to End management of all Australian client events to the highest standards required by the practice areas and/or management.
  • Support on regional events where needed, including regional offsites.
  • Work independently from conception to execution, including pre-event organisation (venue sourcing and price negotiation), budget management, onsite execution, staff management, senior management liaison, final cost analysis and post-event feedback.
  • Participate in brainstorming sessions to develop creative concepts.
  • Provide strategic advice regarding the value, purpose and feasibility of the event.
  • Use negotiating skills when dealing with venues and suppliers to ensure best outcome, discounts and cost savings for the firm.
  • Project manage timeline for all major events.
  • Establish clear communication channels with internal and external clients and communicate necessary requirements.
  • Coordinate suppliers, handle client queries and troubleshoot on the day to ensure the event runs smoothly and on budget.
  • Act as main point of contact for virtual event platforms such as On24, WebEx, Microsoft Teams as well as broader event technologies including Eventogy and InterAction.
  • Maintain preferred venue and supplier lists across Sydney and Perth.
  • Manage annual events budget as well as budgets for individual events.
  • Maintain firm events calendar and other systems and documentation as required.
  • Whilst the focus of this role is client facing, there will be a need from time to time to manage strategic internal events. One such event that falls within the remit of this role is the staff end of year party.

Data

  • Leverage event data and client insights to tailor experiences that deepen engagement and foster long-term relationships.
  • Use CRM and event analytics tools to track attendance, engagement, and post-event feedback, translating insights into actionable relationship strategies.
  • Collaborate with marketing and business development teams to align event strategies with client segmentation and growth objectives.
  • Develop reporting frameworks to measure event ROI and client impact, using data to inform future planning and relationship-building efforts.

Digital

  • Approach events with a campaign mindset, and work with the APAC BCM team to get more out of the content we generate as part of an event.
  • Assist with creating podcasts and video production to attract target audiences to our owned channels such as official website and LinkedIn page.
  • Assist with website and intranet updates and liaise with local and regional Brand, Communications and Marketing team as required.
  • Strong communication skills with capacity to draft content with minimal supervision.

Membership Coordination

  • Support with managing and getting the most out of our memberships.

Graduate recruitment events

  • Support the Graduate Recruitment Manager on events from time to time. We anticipate one event per year in Sydney and in Perth

Other additional support as required. This would encompass, but will not be limited to:

  • Provide guidance to non-events specialists on best practice.
  • Training of Practice Support Coordinators to deliver smaller scale client events.

Qualifications

•  5 plus years' experience working in a similar role
•  Qualification in marketing
•  Writing skills and attention to detail
•  Proficiency with On24, WebEx, Microsoft Team, InterAction, Eventogy
•  Proficiency with systems, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint
•  Practical, proactive, commercially minded and service driven with a "can do" and positive attitude
•  Strong organisational skills and ability to prioritise
•  Sensitive to different business cultures
•  Ability to build effective relationships at all levels
•  Strong team player
