This role sits in the Programme Management Office (PMO) which is part of the Global Programme Group (GPG). The GPG provides stewardship of the firm's global investment portfolio, ensuring the investments advance the firm's strategy, are effectively governed and the outcomes delivered. The GPG works across the firm's governance model, collaborating with the firm's executive leadership to define, organise, govern and deliver transformational change in a coordinated and effective way.
The GPG provides a central location and expertise to support, enable and deliver the firm’s transformation strategy. These changes may affect all functional and geographic areas within the Firm (including both legal and non-legal teams) and, as such, there are multiple complex projects and programmes that require sophisticated yet pragmatic programme and change management to ensure the delivery of successful outcomes and maximum business benefits.
The PMO establishes and oversees the institutional framework that ensures the firm's initiatives are strategically aligned, suitably prioritised, resourced and effectively governed. Overall, it sets the environments that increases the likelihood of successfully delivering the intended business outcomes.
Role Description
The Clifford Chance Global Programme Group is seeking a PMO Executive Manager to join our team. The PMO Executive Manager will be responsible for overseeing the GPG Programme Management Office (PMO) and ensuring that all projects and programs are executed successfully and in line with the firm's strategic objectives. In this role, you will report to the Head of PMO, working closely with and provide strategic support to the GPG leadership to help advance the GPG strategy.
The ideal candidate will have a strong background in project management, excellent communication skills, be highly resourceful with solid emotional intelligence and analytical skills and able to lead and develop a team of PMO professionals.
Key Responsibilities and Duties:
- Act as a strategic advisor to the Head of PMO, providing insights and recommendations on GPG operations and strategic initiatives.
- Promote operational excellence and focus within the GPG and the PMO, fostering a culture of continuous improvement by identifying opportunities to create efficiency, remove obstacles and outline high-impact opportunities.
- Facilitate communication and collaboration across the GPG and other departments, ensuring all teams are aligned and working towards common project goals.
- Develop and implement PMO processes, policies and procedures to ensure consistent and efficient project management practices across the firm.
- Oversee the ideation, initiation, execution, and closure of projects and programs, supporting the delivery team in ensuring that they are completed on time, within scope, and within budget.
- Provide guidance, support, and direction to project managers and team members, fostering a collaborative and results-driven environment.
- At a portfolio/"roll up" level, monitor and track project progress, risks and issues, advising on appropriate mitigation strategies and providing insight over and above data aggregation to support senior management decision making.
- Prepare and review reports, communications, presentations and other materials for the firm's senior governance groups.
- Develop and maintain project management tools, templates, and documentation to support effective project delivery.
- Establish and maintain relationships with other departments who are key to the delivery of projects within the firm, ensuring processes are effective, efficient and pragmatic.
- Lead, manage, mentor, and develop the PMO team, promoting professional growth and development.
- Coordinate, orchestrate and manage initiatives for the Head of PMO such as sensitive lessons learned or issue resolution activities.
- Support inter-department communications through managing the monthly department meeting and similar mediums.
Key skills and knowledge
- Significant experience of working within a department/enterprise wide PMO ideally in a Professional Services environment.
- Proven ability to build relationships with cross-functional teams of diverse styles, skill sets, and experience levels and achieve results.
- Organized and detail-oriented with the ability to prioritize.
- Demonstrated ability to work as part of a team and inspire others.
- Ability to manage resources and multiple projects simultaneously under pressure and within deadlines.
- Willingness to work hard, take direction, and creatively solve problems the answers for which are not obvious or known.
- Ability to think critically and demonstrate good judgment.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Data analytics skills and experience of dashboarding tools such as PowerBI, drawing conclusions and insight from the data.
- Willing to ‘get their sleeves rolled up’ and ‘get things done’.
