The Role

This role is part of a global BD team supporting the development of Clifford Chance's US commercial litigation team in the US and globally. This is a hands-on and proactive role where you will work directly with the commercial litigation team based in New York and Washington DC.

You will also act as the key point of contact for the L&DR Regional Practice Area Lead for the US, based in New York, providing support on executing on wider regional L&DR BD strategy.

You will work directly with the commercial litigation team in the US on their client and market development initiatives, and closely with the L&DR Regional Practice Area Lead for the US in defining and driving the implementation of regional BD strategy.

This role collaborates closely with the fee-earning population globally to support identification, pursuit and winning of revenue generating opportunities. It connects Partners and lawyers to the full spectrum of BD services and expertise available across the global function.

This role works alongside counterparts in the other regions, as well as being a key member of the BD community in the Americas and globally.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Revenue generation

  • Support the US commercial litigation team in implementing its US C&MD plan
  • Work with the US commercial litigation team to develop/shape product offerings and initiatives
  • Position and promote US commercial litigation product offerings and initiatives, with the wider ICLG and the firm more widely
  • Proactively spot market trends and opportunities for the US commercial litigation team across the US and globally
  • Provide tailored input into significant commercial litigation pitches and capability statements

Reputation management and marketing communications (working with BC&M)

  • Assist in identifying opportunities to position and raise the profile of the US commercial litigation practice and its individual lawyers
  • Lead in the organisation of commercial litigation focused client events, seminars and conferences, sponsorships, PR, etc.
  • Oversee multiple marketing communications projects, including the delivery of US commercial litigation directory/awards submissions

Client focus

  • Apply depth of commercial litigation product knowledge to support client and sector programmes that run across the L&DR practice and firmwide
  • Conduct competitor, client and marketplace analysis to identify new and emerging opportunities

Regional Practice Area Lead support

  • Work closely with the Regional Practice Area Lead for the US, the practice's Regional Business Manager for the US, and the Director of Client & Market Development for Global Litigation & Dispute Resolution to define and drive the implementation of regional client and market development strategy

C&MD function projects

  • Work closely with the Global Head of L&DR, BD to execute on strategically important C&MD function projects

Clifford Chance US LLP offers a comprehensive benefits and compensation package. The salary range for this role is $240,000 to $275,000. The actual salary will be commensurate with the candidate's qualifications and relevant experience.

Key Requirements

  • Previous experience in professional services business development (preferably in a law firm)
  • A strong interest in and understanding of the work types covered by our commercial litigators
  • Sound commercial awareness of legal market development, particularly in relation to commercial litigation work types
  • The ability to develop advisory relationships with partners
  • Strong project management and organisational skills
  • Excellent oral and written communications skills
  • Ability to work as part of a team and with lawyers of all seniority levels
  • Commitment to quality and attention to detail
  • A degree (or equivalent) in a relevant discipline
  • Must be able to adhere and comply with the Firm's Agile Working Policy which requires employees to work from the office at least three days each calendar week.
  • Must be independently and legally authorized to work in the United States.
