The role

The Associate Manager is responsible for developing and leading the sector strategy for the UK Government sector. The role will support the Firm in embedding its already successful strategy in relation to its sector approach and the successful candidate will have responsibility for all facets of business development. 

 

The main aim of the role is:

  • to support the delivery of "must win" proposals for the sector
  • to implement the newly refreshed UK Government sector strategy
  • to support the client facing relationships which underpin the sector, including by acting as the "go-to" for queries from key clients and internal stakeholders

 

 

Who you will work with

 

This role works closely with the Director of Public Law to drive the newly refreshed strategy forwards. In this role you will also act as a central hub for all things UK Government related. This means you will work across all practice areas, drawing on the relevant expertise for each opportunity. At times, there may be international opportunities that you feed into.

 

 

What you will be responsible for

 

Help the practice group maintain their established position and to capitalise on the opportunities to win work from both our key clients and prospective new clients. This will be provided through the execution of business development, client development and marketing initiatives.

 

You may also possibly become involved on one or more strategic client teams.

 

 

What you will do

 

Lead on the production of tender documents (pitches and proposals) including:

  • lead and manage the production of RFP responses, pitches, capability statements and credential statements
  • manage and improve the process for capturing sector deal information in the global matter database
  • lead and coordinate team presentation preparation

 

Framework management 

  • lead on all framework management elements, ensuring strict deadlines are consistently met – includes coordinating internal stakeholders
  • establish effective relationships with key external framework managers

 

Preparing and maintaining marketing collateral, including:

  • lead on the production of sector materials (capability statements, brochures, briefings, thought leadership publications, contact cards, etc), ensuring these are in brand style and liaising with the design team and external agencies as required

 

Collaborate on client relationship and acquisition programmes, including:

  • manage the client development for the key client accounts which underpin the sector and take an active role in client planning
  • maintain detailed client mapping including man-mapping of key individuals
  • liaising with the business research team to provide relevant and extensive client research (particularly in relation to targeting initiatives)
  • assisting with the implementation of sector client campaigns
  • using the firm's key management systems (e.g. Foundation) and be able to extract financial data and rate information for use in pitches and client development/targeting initiatives
  • liaising with fee-earners, PAs and the data team to ensure all client contact information is stored, categorised and maintained on InterAction

 

Coordinating internal and external resources, including:

  • ensuring website and intranet sector/practice/region summary, deal and team contacts are up to date and refreshed quarterly
  • organising the production of legal directories and award submissions, including the preparation of materials for the directory interviews
  • compilation of presentations and internal updates
  • manage any internal newsletters and contribute to wider office/regional/sector newsletters

 

Coordinating onsite and offsite events, including:

  • working with the events team and legal support secretaries (as appropriate) to ensure integrated management, client communications, and delivery of client events (e.g. seminars, workshops, webinars, publications)

 

  • assist in the distribution of related client communications

Qualifications

Your experience

 

  • You will have experience of working in a marketing or business development team, ideally within the professional services market or equivalent experience in a client development/account management role
  • You will be able to demonstrate a track record of being pro-active and delivering high quality work
  • You will need to prioritise projects and deliver quickly on requests which have a short turnaround time
  • You will be able to plan and organise effectively to meet business priorities
  • You will communicate clearly and persuasively, both orally and in writing (including strong editing and proofing ability and attention to detail)
  • You will understand your role in the broader context of the group, the firm and its clients
  • You will need to be able to gather and analyse information and share the insight gained to bring about good decisions, solutions and action
  • You will be able to form strong working relationships with others and uses those relationships to benefit both the group and the firm as a whole
  • You will exhibit self-motivation and flexibility to improve continuously both quality of delivery and personal performance
  • You will exhibit commitment to the team and demonstrate reliability as an active participant taking the initiative to help make things happen
  • You will need to be positive and flexible to ensure that the areas within your remit are well managed while contributing positively and enthusiastically to the C&MD programmes in other areas
  • You will be proactive, resilient and focused
  • You will have strong general software skills (Excel, Word and PowerPoint). Experience of using InterAction is also preferable.

 

 

Qualifications:

You will be degree qualified, or equivalent, and ideally have a marketing qualification (CIM etc).
