The Role

The Clearance Centre is a central part of the firm's risk management function and reports ultimately to the firm's General Counsel.

Working in the London Clearance Centre you will be working as part of a team responsible for the management of conflicts of interest and associated compliance issues across Clifford Chance's global practice, including Europe, the Middle East and Asia.

Who you will work with

Liaising with both partners and lawyers to establish whether a conflict of interest exists, often in the context of a range of related matters, many of which are highly complex transactions.

 

What you will be responsible for

Your primary responsibility will be to investiagate and make decisions on whether new mandates to be undertaken by the Firm, can be accepted in the context of current conflicts and other compliance issues, taking into account legal/regulatory requirements, internal policies as well as reputational and commercial conflict implications.

 

What you will do

  • Checking new mandates and to establish if they can be accepted in the context of current conflicts and other regulatory rules, as well as internal policies, across the full range of practice areas within the firm.
  • Investigating to understand whether changes to existing mandates create any conflict or other compliance issues for the firm.
  • Liaising with both partners and lawyers to resolve any conflicts of interest arising on matters whose scope has changed since original conflicts clearance.
  • Reviewing NDAs and identifying any relevant conflicts of interest issues.
  • Identifying any applicable conditions upon which mandates can be accepted or continued.
  • Investigating information contained in the Firm's conflict management systems.

 

  • Establishing information barriers and dealing with ad hoc questions/queries from Partners and lawyers relating to conflicts of interest and other engagement risk issues.

 


Qualifications

Your experience

Skills:

  • Sound awareness of commercial issues and ability to resolve them pragmatically.
  • Good attention to detail.
  • Ability to work both unsupervised and as part of a team. 
  • You will have the ability to manage your workload, including prioritising your time.
  • Flexible and effective verbal and written communication skills and an ability to build and maintain relationships with all members of the Firm.
  • You will have the ability to adapt quickly to new processes and technology.
  • You will be commercially minded with strong analytical, organisational, and interpersonal skills.

 

Experience:

  • You will have experience in compliance and knowledge of applicable conflict of interest rules, ideally gained in an international law practice.
  • You will have gained experience of working in a compliance function, ideally in a similar role as a Conflicts Analyst within a commercial law firm environment.
  • Previous experience of gathering and analysing information, by using it to solve problems in a methodical and practical way.

 

Qualifications:

  • A Law degree.

Hybrid Working

This role follows our 'balanced' hybrid working approach and as long as business needs allow, you will be supported to work in a hybrid way with the expectation of working from the office for a minimum of 50% of your time.
